[Review] Tony Moly Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm

Tony Moly gets a lot of flack in the Asian beauty community for being all package and not enough product. But for many people (myself included!) Tony Moly is the gateway drug to a whole new world.

And I couldn’t have been happier that it was Tony Moly’s Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm that introduced me to it! I actually found this product while perusing a makeup shop in Madrid and stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this cute packaging. As someone who had never really invested in skin care its price tag was a little prohibitive (around $20) but after a harsh week of traveling and a pretty devastating breakout I was willing to indulge.

When I first opened the egg I was disappointed by how much was hidden by the little yellow yolk top. But a little of the translucent gel goes a long way! The gel is actually visibly colored by the charcoal powder, which helps purify and tighten skin, and I was happy to find that it also had egg yolk extract and Vitamin E to help hydrate the skin, especially important in winter. The other exfoliating ingredients are sea salt and egg shell powder, I suppose to continue along with the eggy theme.

Taking a bit of the gel, you have to rub it into your face until it creates a thin white mask, and you let it set for 5 to 7 minutes. Supposedly, it’s a warming formula but I never felt that effect. I did feel my skin start to tighten, however, and when I washed it off my skin felt so smooth! And the acne scars that had been bothering me so much had visibly faded! I couldn’t have been happier with the purchase. It was seriously like magic.

Since then I’ve tried other exfoliants but Tony Moly’s Egg Pore Blackhead Steam Balm is definitely a product I would buy again!
